Hotel Bars
The Cosy Bar is located off the main foyer and as its name suggests, is perfect for that cosy chat with a laid back glass of wine or a creamy pint of Guinness. Reknowned for its craic and great food (served all day until 9pm), the bar walls are adorned by photographs and newspaper articles relating to the historic first non stop transatlantic flight in 1919.
The pilots were of course John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown, hence the name of the hotel. They flew from St. Johns, Newfoundland and crash landed just outside Clifden on June 15th, 1919. This famous bar is regularly visited by well known personalities of sport and television. It screens all major sporting events on its large screen. Local artist, Cathal O'Malley, has painted a much admired scene of 2 Galway Hookers sailing the Connemara seas on the rear wall, adding to the character and personality of this bar.
The aeroplane used by Alcock and Brown for their now famous flight was a Vickers Vimy, so we decided to name our large party bar in its honour - Vickers Bar. Vickers Bar opens to accomodate larger groups and is perfect for your special occasion, having hosted many 21st, retirement, club and work parties and musical concerts and events. It can cater for up to 200 people. If you would like a quote for a party or to make a booking you can do so by emailing us via this website or directly at alcockandbrownhotel@yahoo.ie or by telephone on (095)21880 or 00353(95)21880 if dialling from outside Ireland.
Free Wi-Fi is also available in both Bars.
